Important Changes

Dear friends of Mauhaus,

We’ve decided to make some changes to how our reservations system works. Every other cat cafe in the US charges a reservation fee on top of food and drink (some has high as $28/hour!) When we opened, we wanted to be more accessible and make it financially easier for people to come, so we gave a $10 credit with each $10 reservation. Reservations have been working out really well in some ways (95% booked most weekends!) but the issue that’s been the hardest is the food. Because of the credit, a lot of people get food just to spend it, and we see a lot of food go to waste. Our food costs have skyrocketed, and despite being very busy, it’s been hard for us to keep up with expenses.

In order to keep our food costs reasonable, and reduce waste, we’ve decided to make a change to our reservation system. Any new reservations will receive a free drink of choice, and 20% off any food purchased. We feel this change still allows us to be fair and accessible, while allowing us to lower food costs, and even offer a wider variety of baked goods (having to focus less on volume).

Any reservations made prior to today will still be honored with the original system and receive $10 credit. Any new reservations will work under the new system, and receive a free drink (per person) and 20% off food and additional beverages. Children under 12 are still $5, and receive a non-coffee drink.

We thank you for your understanding and patience as we continue to fine-tune the experience and our business model. As you can imagine, there aren’t a lot of examples to look at, especially since we’re breaking with the model of other US cat cafes. We will continue to strive to become the best cat cafe in the world!
