Hissin Hustle 2015

October 28th, 2015

We were happy to provide beverages to folks who were running for a great cause! We decided to make our special Moroccan blend of coffee for this fall occasion. It’s a great blend of spices like cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and a few others. It was a big hit and we actually ran out!

We met a lot of great folks and got to hang out with some Tenth Life volunteers. There were some beautiful adoptable cats there as well and as always our hearts were melted. Tenth Life put on a great event!

Zwanze Day, Maplewood 2015

September 25th, 2015

When the City of Maplewood reached out to us about participating in Zwanze day, we were immediately excited for the opportunity. Maplewood does a great job of creating new and different festivals, and Zwanze was a great reason to do so.

For the uninitiated, Zwanze day is a Belgian beer festival in which Brasserie Cantillon releases a special beer to only 56 locations around the world, and only for one day. This year, Side Project Cellar was one of the locations selected. And, in Maplewood fashion, why shouldn’t the rest of the city celebrate as well?

Zwanze day was exciting for us, as it was our first chance to participate in a Maplewood event with other local vendors, and it was also our first event selling merchandise (up to this point we only ever gave away samples).

Lil Bub: An Evening To Remember

September 8th, 2015

An evening with Lil Bub was a much anticipated event for us. We’ve been in love with Bub for quite some time, so having an opportunity to see her in person was almost more than we could handle. We arrived at the venue a bit early so we could set up our treats, not thinking about the fact that we would likely see Bub during this time as well. I was setting apple walnut blondies on the table when Mike (Bub’s dude) casually walked past me holding Bub in his arms. Having seen her face online almost every day, I didn’t really think much of it.  A few seconds later it hit me. THAT WAS BUB! IN REAL LIFE! She’s so much smaller in person that I imagined. It was so cool to see how laid back she was, totally comfortable being held for long periods of time.

When the …

Creating MAUHAUS no6

September 1st, 2015

Creating a custom tea blend for MAUHAUS was an idea brought to us by Kateri from Traveling Tea. We loved the idea since it gave us the opportunity to work with a local business and create something unique to MAUHAUS. We knew that we wanted to use catnip so that was a good place to start. Kateri invited us to her shop to experiment with different flavors for our blend. It was a really fun process.

We tried different combinations of catnip, peppermint, spearmint, basil, thyme, violet leaf, and a few other flavors. After a few different combinations were tried, we got it. It was subtle and minty and exactly what we were going for. As it was the 6th variation of tea we created, we decided that MAUHAUS no6 would be a fitting name for it. Kateri was really incredible to work with and we are so thankful to …

Our Visit to Caturday Cat Cafe

August 27th, 2015

After our successful trip to Purr Cat Cafe Club we knew we needed to get another cat cafe experience under our belts so we did a bit of research, found one close to public transportation, and chose a day. We could tell from looking at photos online that we were in for a different experience than Purr. Purr was very posh and quiet and overall was really relaxing. Caturday was a different story from the very beginning.

When we arrived to Caturday there was a crowd of people sitting outside. We walked to the front door and a woman with a clipboard added our names to a list. We could see through the windows of the cafe and it looked really crowded. Since we had no other option we sat down outside the cafe and waited for our names to be called. Slowly people came out and people that had been …

Our Visit to Purr Cat Cafe Club

August 24th, 2015

When we visited Thailand in December of 2014 we had already heard of cat cafes but had never had the opportunity to go to one. When we arrived and discovered that Thailand was loaded with them we were anxious to go as soon as we could. We decided that the perfect way to spend Christmas day would be at a cat cafe and we were completely right in our decision. Not having any point of reference for what to expect, we were very curious to see what it was like.

As soon as we walked in the door the mood was very calm and quiet. There was an attendant in the entry that had us remove our shoes and put on leather slippers. We were then asked to wash our hands and then we could enter the lounge. The lounge was fairly small but the bright light coming through the windows …

Pop Up Post Mortem

August 7th, 2015

Our first Pop Up Cat Cafe with Tenth Life was a huge success! We debuted our custom tea, MAUHAUS no6, from Traveling Tea. We also collaborated with Goshen Coffee to make a delicious iced coffee blend using their Guatemalan beans.  We served 2 varieties of cookies for the evening. Our gluten free option was a delicious cardamom and nutmeg shortbread cookie that was a huge hit! We also had a coconut infused chocolate oatmeal cookie that went over really well.

We had a steady stream of folks coming through the entire evening and there were plenty of kittens to keep everyone occupied. Meeting so many people was really great and hearing the support of the community for MAUHAUS was really heart warming. After the pop up we heard that there was a successful adoption that took place due to the event that night! Everyone had a great time and we can’t …
